Cinder Brae Farm, perched on a westward hill of volcanic origin, spans nearly 40 acres, featuring pastures and forests of pine and oak trees. This land was once a segment of a more extensive homestead established by my great-great-grandfather, Alexander McPherson. and grown by his son in law, Lloyd Case. Over the years, as the farm passed hands within the family its size and scope varied but the spirit of the land and the desire to tend to its needs never wavered. Today, we are grateful to be connected to such a profound legacy. We cherish the memory and hard work of those who came before us.
Our foray into shepherding started with a suggestion from one young boy to another based on his experiences of tending to and showing a 4H market lamb. The idea appealed to our son and the rest, as they say, is history! Despite our trials and tribulations, we managed a successful first year - thanks largely to the gracious support of local sheep farmers, families and friends. Although we were told that both market sheep needed to be sold, one sheep in particular captured our hearts. It is because of Mr. Bucket we gained two HampX ewes, Mop and 5Gal. Before we knew it, we had HampX foster ewe, two re-homed Merino ewes, an American Soay lamb who needed a flock, a sweet Blackbelly Barbados who thought she was a dog and two adorable goats who needed good homes and a little extra TLC.
